Saturday... August 8
We got a late start leaving Edmonton. Mike did preventive maintenance on the truck & camper.
We pulled away with blue skies and very bright sunshine.

We made excellent time as we took a "short cut" Mike learned from a man on line. We were enjoying the day and very proud of our progress. We were making plans to celebrate getting to the Alaska highway. We were planning to cook steaks over charcoal and enjoy the exciting little town of Dawson Creek, mile 0 of the Alaska highway.

I've always heard a phone call can change everything. Today it did.

We got a call from Dara. Papa's had a heart attack and on his way via ambulance to St. Thomas.

What do we do. We are 3/4 way to Alaska and hundreds of miles from an airport. We decide to continue on to Dawson Creek, look for a RV park with wi-fi and get more details. That was the longest 20 miles of our trip.

Mike tracked down Dr. Burck and like the good friend he is; he got on the phone to the Nashville doctors. Papa probably did have a mild heart attack, but is stable at this time. Plans are for medical treatment this weekend, with a cardiac cath and possible stent planned on Monday.

Mike gets to speak to papa finally. With great anxiety our plans are to push hard tomorrow toward Alaska and try to get near an airport by Monday night. Just in case we have to fly home.

Where is Dawson Creek, British Columbia:

It is mile 0 of the Alaskan Highway. This is the beginning of the famous AlCan highway. Not sure when they officially changed the name to the Alaska Highway, but that's where it is. Please pray from PaPa's recovery.
