We sleep late in our warm little camper on the Homer Spit. The wind is cool and I can see my breath as I take a quick walk outside. It's 7:30 local time and I didn't check the temp, but it's cool.

During our visit here in 2007 we stayed at this same campground. We parked next to the Eagle Lady. She was well known for the many years she lived in this campground feeding hundreds of eagles every winter. This past winter, she pasted away and there's nothing left of her campsite except this homemade eagle perch.
Here's a few other photos from the beach as we walk around enjoying low tide.

We drove thru the town. It seems an odd place. Here on the spit it's all about the fishing and bear watching. Did I tell you that Katmai national park (home of soooo many grizzly bears) is just across the bay from us. There's another element to the people of Homer: an artistic group have a definite precense among the others. Here's just a sample of the unusual businesses we see in this little town:

Next back to the spit, to the "hole". This area fills and empties based on the changing tides twice daily. Here's a photo of near high tide with fishing & a few fishermen cleaning their catch...

In the afternoon, the tide comes back in and so does the wind. It's a little cool now, in case you can't tell that by my photo.

We enjoy a visit from a curious seal.

And Mikey enjoys walking the beach and bringing me back treasures.
